Oxidized bitumen 85/25 is primarily used for industrial waterproofing applications including foundation waterproofing, basement membranes, and below-grade protection. It's also used in roofing felt production, shingle underlayment, pipe coating for corrosion protection, thermal insulation boards, expansion joint sealing, and industrial coating applications.

The 85/25 designation refers to the grade specifications: 85°C is the approximate softening point (range 80–95°C), and 25 decimillimeters (dmm) is the approximate penetration value at 25°C (range 20–30 dmm). These values define the material's hardness and thermal stability characteristics.

Yes, oxidized bitumen 85/25 provides excellent waterproofing performance. When applied as a continuous membrane or coating, it creates an impermeable barrier against water and moisture. Its high softening point ensures the waterproofing layer maintains integrity even in hot climates, while its flexibility at moderate temperatures allows it to accommodate structural movements.

Penetration bitumen is distilled from crude oil and classified by penetration (hardness) at 25°C — for example, 60/70 grade. Oxidized (blown) bitumen is produced by passing air through hot penetration bitumen at 230–260°C, which raises the softening point and lowers penetration. This makes blown bitumen more suitable for industrial applications requiring higher temperature resistance and lower temperature flexibility.
